再次提醒各位，我们的迎新会将在这来临的星期六举行（9月18日），地点是在LT1，时间是上午九点开始，请务必准时出席。

请新生们注意以下几点：

1. 9月18日当天，从Bukit Batok 到Jurong East 的地铁服务因轨道连接工程而暂停。受影响的同学，请自行安排交通，以确保能准时到会场。

大家好，放了大概100天的长假，想必大家非常享受这次的假期，也都得到充分的休息，是吧？！

再过两天就要开学了，不管你是十分期待还是十分不愿，又或是患有什么开学恐慌症的，都请你在这短暂的两天，做好心理准备，整理心情，准备在来临的新学期好好冲刺、发挥吧！

而新生们也要注意了，9月18号是华研会的迎新会，我们准备了丰富的活动，如游戏及香港教育之旅的分享等。除此之外，我们也会告诉你很多在校内不可不知的注意事项，好比说校规（=_=!!!）、介绍我们可爱的老师们、还有你不能错过的上课应考小贴士等等噢!

有兴趣加入华研会的同学也要注意了，当天我们也会告诉你要如何加入我们的大家庭！请大家务必出席=）

而9月7号及8号，我们也会在NIE 食堂二楼设立询问处，时间是上午10点30分到下午3点30分。还没报名参加迎新会的新生，你可以在这两天来报名；而报名了但还没缴交费用或报名表格的，也可以过来我们的询问处完成手续；有任何疑问，也都可以来询问处，我们会尽量帮你解除疑难杂症的！

开花的佛桌：给浪子回头的机会

　　曾经有一个小和尚，极得方丈宠爱。方丈将毕生所学全数教授，希望他能成为出色的佛门弟子。没想到他在一夜之间动了凡心，偷偷下了山。五光十色的城市迷住了他的眼睛，从此花街柳巷，他只管放浪形骸。

　　二十年后的一个深夜，窗外月色如洗，澄明清澈地洒在他的掌心。他忽然忏悔了，披衣而起，快马加鞭赶往寺里请求师父原谅。方丈深深厌恶他的放荡，不愿再收他为弟子，说：“你罪孽深重，必堕阿鼻地狱，要想佛祖饶恕，除非桌子上开花。”浪子失望地离开了。

　　第二天，方丈踏进佛堂时，看到佛桌上开满了大簇大簇的花朵。方丈在瞬间大彻大悟，连忙下山寻找弟子，却为时已晚，心灰意冷的浪子重又堕入荒唐的生活，而佛桌上的那些花朵只开放了短短的一天。是夜，方丈圆寂，临终遗言：“这世上，没有什么歧途不可以回头，没有什么错误不可以改正。”

　　一个真心向善的念头，是最罕有的奇迹，好像佛桌上开出的花朵。而让奇迹陨灭的，不是错误，而是一颗冰冷的、不肯原谅、不肯相信的心。

To all PGDE, BA (Ed) and Dip Ed Chinese Specialisation Freshmen,

A warmest welcome to you for joining the Chinese Specialisation Programme at the National Institute of Education (NIE)! The Chinese Language, Education & Research (C.L.E.A.R) Club’s Orientation Special Project Group Committee will be organizing a FOC for you.

This camp welcomes you to the NIE family and provides you with important information about your studies and life in NIE. It also serves as a platform for you to interact with other freshmen and seniors before the term in NIE officially commences.

Please wear casual outfit and covered shoes during the FOC. Goodie bags consisting of essential handouts and a CLEAR Club T-shirt will be distributed to you. In addition, a sumptuous tea-break will be provided during the FOC.

Registration Matters
A FOC Registration booth will be set up during the various programme briefings so that you can sign up for the camp. All freshmen are required to report to the booth to make payment of $15 and to submit the attached reply slip.

Freshmen who missed the registration during their programme briefing days can still register at our booth on the day of the orientation itself.

Compulsory Attendance
Please note that attendance is compulsory. If you are unable to attend, a formal request of excuse is required. Please address it to CLEAR Club’s Chairperson, Ms Ng Pei Rong, at clear.chairperson@gmail.com and state the reason(s) for your absence.

名贵之花衰落的秘密

心灵鸡汤小故事

一个精明的荷兰花草商人，千里迢迢从遥远的非洲引进了一种名贵的花卉，培育在自己的花圃里，准备到时候卖上个好价钱。对这种名贵的花卉，商人爱护备至，许多亲朋好友向他索要，一向慷慨大方的他却连一粒种子也不给。他计划培育三年，等拥有上万株后再开始出售和馈赠。

第一年的春天，他的花开了，花圃里万紫千红，邪种名贵的花开得尤其漂亮，就像缕缕明媚的阳光。第二年的春天，他的这种名贵的花已培育出了五六千株，但他和朋友们发现，今年的花没有去年开得好，花朵略小不说，还有一点点的杂色。到了第三年的春天，他的名贵的花已经繁育出了上万株，令这位商人沮丧的是，那些名贵的花的花朵已经变得更小，花色也差多了，完全没有了它在非洲时的那种雍容和高贵。当然，他也没能靠这些花赚上一大笔。难道这些花退化了吗？可非洲人年年和植这种花，大面积、年复一年地种植，并没有见过这种花会退化呀。百思不得乓解，他便去请教一位植物学家。

植物学家拄着拐杖来到他的花圃看了看，问他：你这花圃隔壁是什么？他说：隔壁是别人的花圃。植物学家又问他：他们种植的也是这种花吗？他摇摇头说：这种花在全荷兰，甚至整个欧洲也只有我一个人有，他们的花圃里都是些郁金香、玫瑰、金盏菊之类的普通花卉。

植物学家沉吟了半天说：我知道你这名贵之花不再名贵的致命秘密了。植物学家接着说：尽管你的花圃里种满了这种名贵之花，但和你的花圃毗邻的花圃却种植着其他花卉，你的这种名贵之花被风传授了花粉后，又染上了毗邻花圃里的其他品种的花粉，所以你的名贵之花一年不如一年，越来越不雍容华贵了。商人问植物学家该怎么办，植物学家说：谁能阻挡住风传授花粉呢？要想使你的名贵之花不失本色，只有一种办法，那就是让你邻居的花圃里也都种上这种花。于是商人把自己的花种分给了自己的邻居。

次年春天花开的时候，商人和邻居的花圃几乎成了这种名贵之花的海洋花朵又肥又大，花色典雅，朵朵流光溢彩、雍容华贵。这些花一上市，便被抢购一空，商人和他的邻居都发了大财。*只有慷慨大方热于与他人分享幸福与快乐的人，才能从中得到更多的幸福与快乐*

沒有永遠對的價值觀

朋友手拿一份報紙，說讓我做一個小小的測驗，我欣然同意了

問題一：
如果你知道有一個女人懷孕了，她已經生了八個小孩，
其中有三個耳朵聾、兩個眼睛瞎、一個智能不足，
而這女人自己又有梅毒，請問，你會建議她墮胎嗎？

我剛要回答，朋友制止了我，又問我第二個問題。

問題二：
現在要選舉一名領袖，而你這一票很關鍵。
下面是關於這三位候選人的一些事實：

候選人A：
跟一些不誠實的政客有往來，而且會咨詢占星學家。
他有婚外情，是一個老煙槍，每天喝8─10杯的馬丁尼。

候選人B：
他過去有兩次被解雇的記錄，睡覺睡到中午才起來，
大學時吸過鴉片，而且每天傍晚會喝一夸特的威士忌。

候選人C：
他是一位受勛的戰爭英雄，素食主義者，不抽煙，
只偶爾喝一點啤酒。從沒有發生過婚外情。
請問你會在這些候選人中選哪一個？

朋友讓我把答案寫在紙上，然後告訴我說:
候選人A是：富蘭克林•羅斯福，
候選人B是：溫斯頓•邱吉爾，
候選人C是：亞道夫•希特勒。

我聽了答案驚訝地張大了嘴巴。
朋友表情凝重地問我：
你是不是為世界人民選擇了希特勒？
那你會建議這位婦女墮胎嗎？
我說：這個問題不用考慮，我們受計劃生育優生優育教育多年了，
都生那麼多歪瓜劣棗了，就別再添亂了。當然墮胎啊。
朋友說：你殺了貝多芬，她是貝多芬的母親。
我又一次吃驚地張大了嘴巴。
朋友說：嚇一跳吧？本來你認為很好很人道主義的答案，
結果卻扼殺了貝多芬、創造了希特勒？
最後朋友總結道：
所以不要用既定的價值觀來思考事物。
我抓過朋友手中的報紙，原來真是一個測驗題，題目是《你的決定滅了誰》。
重要的是，不是我們在哪，
而是我們要往哪走......

如果你知道往哪走，世界會為你開出一條路
帶著你的靈魂追尋美好事物與時光
所以凡事別太主觀

美國最好的老師，如何跟學生說--灰姑娘故事

上課鈴響了，孩子們跑進教室，這節課老師要講的是《灰姑娘》的故事。
老師先請一個孩子上臺給同學講一講這個故事。
孩子很快講完了，老師對他表示了感謝，然後開始向全班提問。

老師：你們喜歡故事裏面的哪一個？不喜歡哪一個？為什麼？

學生：喜歡辛黛瑞拉（灰姑娘），還有王子，不喜歡她的後媽和後媽帶來的姐姐。
　　　辛黛瑞拉善良、可愛、漂亮。後媽和姐姐對辛黛瑞拉不好。

老師：如果在午夜12點的時候，辛黛瑞拉沒有來得及跳上她的南瓜馬車，你們想一想，可能會出現什麼情況？

學生：辛黛瑞拉會變成原來髒髒的樣子，穿著破舊的衣服。哎呀，那就慘啦。

老師：所以，你們一定要做一個守時的人，不然就可能給自己帶來麻煩。另外，你們看，你們每個人平時都打扮得漂漂亮亮的，千萬不要突然邋裏邋遢地出現在別人面前，不然你們的朋友要嚇著了。女孩子們，你們更要注意，將來你們長大和男孩子約會，要是你不注意，被你的男朋友看到你很難看的樣子，他們可能就嚇昏了（老師做昏倒狀，全班大笑）。

好，下一個問題：如果你是辛黛瑞拉的後媽，你會不會阻止辛黛瑞拉去參加王子的舞會？你們一定要誠實喲！

學生：（過了一會兒，有孩子舉手回答）是的，如果我是辛黛瑞拉的後媽，我也會阻止她去參加王子的舞會。

老師：為什麼？

學生：因為，因為我愛自己的女兒，我希望自己的女兒成為王后?

老師：是的，所以，我們看到的後媽好像都是不好的人，她們只是對別人不夠好，可是她們對自己的孩子卻很好，你們明白了嗎？她們不是壞人，只是她們還不能夠像愛自己的孩子一樣去愛其他的孩子。

孩子們，下一個問題：辛黛瑞拉的後媽不讓她去參加王子的舞會，甚至把門鎖起來，她為什麼能夠去，而且成為舞會上最美麗的姑娘呢？

學生：因為有仙女幫助她，給她漂亮的衣服，還有把南瓜變成馬車，把狗和老鼠變成僕人。

老師：對，你們說得很好！想一想，如果辛黛瑞拉沒有得到仙女的幫助，她是不可能去參加舞會的，是不是？

學生：是的！

老師：如果狗、老鼠都不願意幫助她，她可能在最後的時刻成功地跑回家嗎？

學生：不會，那樣她就可以成功地嚇到王子了。（全班再次大笑）

老師：雖然辛黛瑞拉有仙女幫助她，但是，光有仙女的幫助還不夠。所以，孩子們，無論走到哪裏，我們都是需要朋友的。我們的朋友不一定是仙女，但是，我們需要他們，我也希望你們有很多很多的朋友。

下面，請你們想一想，如果辛黛瑞拉因為後媽不願意她參加舞會就放棄了機會，她可能成為王子的新娘嗎？

學生：不會！那樣的話，她就不會到舞會上，不會被王子遇到，認識和愛上她了。
老師：對極了！如果辛黛瑞拉不想參加舞會，就是她的後媽沒有阻止，甚至支持她去，也是沒有用的，是誰決定她要去參加王子的舞會？

學生：她自己。

老師：所以，孩子們，就是辛黛瑞拉沒有媽媽愛她，她的後媽不愛她，這也不能夠讓她不愛自己。就是因為她愛自己，她才可能去尋找自己希望得到的東西。如果你們當中有人覺得沒有人愛，或者像辛黛瑞拉一樣有一個不愛她的後媽，你們要怎麼樣？

學生：要愛自己！

老師：對，沒有一個人可以阻止你愛自己，如果你覺得別人不夠愛你，你要加倍地愛自己；如果別人沒有給你機會，你應該加倍地給自己機會；如果你們真的愛自己，就會為自己找到自己需要的東西，沒有人可以阻止辛黛瑞拉參加王子的舞會，沒有人可以阻止辛黛瑞拉當上王后，除了她自己。對不對？

學生：是的！！！

老師：最後一個問題，這個故事有什麼不合理的地方？

學生：（過了好一會）午夜12點以後所有的東西都要變回原樣，可是，辛黛瑞拉的水晶鞋沒有變回去。

老師：天哪，你們太棒了！你們看，就是偉大的作家也有出錯的時候，所以，出錯不是什麼可怕的事情。我擔保，如果你們當中誰將來要當作家，一定比這個作家更棒！你們相信嗎？

孩子們歡呼雀躍。

清晨，揉一揉惺忪的睡眼，打开窗子，听黄莺啼啭，看溪水潺潺，闻花香沁人……窗外的世界如此美丽。
　　
　　窗子上也许有灰尘，也许有污渍，拿出手帕擦亮它，美丽自然重现。
　　
　　又如人生，也许你的心灵被眼睛蒙蔽了，而事实上，却是心灵上的污垢蒙蔽了你的双眼。然后，花非花，雾非雾，只剩下朦胧美了。
　　
　　一个人发现别人的错误总比发现自己的错误容易，而错怪别人也比检讨自己简单。这是因为他的心灵之窗受到了污染，所以才会愤世嫉俗，怨天尤人，而忽视了自己的不足。
　　
　　美学上有时讲究残缺美，以此来凸显艺术水平的高低，而心灵上则不然。心灵的不完美造就了凄美，凄美即是悲剧。心灵上的不完美即是缺陷，有缺陷就应该弥补，有不足就要改正，博采众长，补己所短，这是正道。
　　
　　让心灵美好一些，就把心灵上的那面窗户擦得亮一些，让一缕缕阳光照进窗子，一点点温暖不断渗透在心房里那最柔软的部分。那片柔软的芳草地，跳跃着一群拥有美好名字的东西：善良、友好、大方、向上……
　　
　　窗子若脏了，心灵也会变颜色，也会失去往日鲜艳的色彩，这样的话，我们看世界不再美丽，看生活不再快乐，看他人不再可爱。所以，请时刻记得用手轻轻拂去窗子上的灰尘，让你的心灵保持一份纯洁、清澈让那湾心之溪水静静地流淌，即使平静无波，也能动人心魄。
　　
　　窗子敞开着，也许会有雨水灌入，风雪飘入，也许你会觉得寒冷彻骨或是炎热难抵。不管如何艰难困苦，也请你经受住这些考验，“苦其心志”，这是历练的过程，虽苦，犹甜。
　　
　　轻擦去积存的雨水，飘落的雪花，最后一丝凉风也让阳光带走了，只要心灵上的那扇窗子还亮着，素面朝天，你就应该笑着看世界。
　　
　　朋友，人生路上，请擦亮你们心灵上的窗子，让一缕阳光照进来，让一丝温暖渗透进你的心房，让你的世界精彩起来。

2. Membership & $15 Club Fees

we have several queries with regards to the membership and the club fees, so we will explain it here. ALL FRESHIES in CHINESE SPECIALISATION would automatically become ordinary members of the CLEAR club.

Members benefits from the club in numerous ways, such as the chance to participate in various event celebrations like Chinese New Year celebrations, Mid-autumn festival and sessions such as pre-practicum talks, Chinese Pedagogy Sharing etc, which helps us in our teaching endeavours.

Hence, all of these freshies have to pay $15 Club Fees. This is used to fund all the above mentioned activities, it includes the printing of Club Tee as well.

3. Exco
Currently, we are still recruiting and are still looking out for people who are interested and committed to fill the positions.

Advantages of Exco:
-know more people, a more interesting school life
-ECA points, learn PR skills, chance to go for overseas exchange (check out our Hong Kong trip last year in the blog) etc.

Hello everyone!

Remember we were talking about updates last time?
To replace the cancelled ~~and much anticipated~~ Freshmen Orientation, we are going to have a Club Fair. This is definitely ideal for all the people wanting to find out more about CLEAR club (and also other clubs) and fun for all others. Pull all your friends along to join in the fun, regardless of course and specialisation!

Reminder: all students under the Chinese Specialisation please pay $15 at our booth and also give us your T-shirt size (this is for your Club T-shirt). Joining the club is compulsory for all Chinese Specialisation students in the foundation programme. There would be a sample there for you to see which size fits you.

Meanwhile, we are recruiting people into our EXCO and sub-comm! You don't have to be taking Chinese to be part of it. Come down to our booth for more details.

Cancellation of Freshmen Orientation

Dear All,

As part of measures to reduce the risk of Influenza A (H1N1) among students, CLEAR Club has been notified by the Foundation Programmes Office (FPO) to cancel NIE (CLEAR Club) FOC 2009. This will help to minimise the risk of H1N1 spreading within the school community and in Singapore before school reopens.

Meanwhile, freshies don't be disheartened! Discussion regarding the dismissal of FOC 2009 is ongoing and further instructions will be provided again to update everyone. We might be planning other activities for everyone, so stay tuned!

Hi there!

For people who might want to know about us and our life in the club, here's your chance!
On most days we'd probably look like this to people.

Through we are a serious batch of ppl when we work, we are a crazy bunch when we're having lots of fun!
We have had many outings and some of the more significant ones are as follows:

The Sentosa outing was a memorable one for the EXCO members who attended, as it marked the success of the first event (Mid-autumn Festival Celebration) we worked together, which had garnered a very good response from lecturers and students alike.

When we finish a big event, usually we'd gather for a hearty meal together.

At our second gathering, members not only ate delicious food togather, but also gathered at the bowling alley and bicycle pathment of East Coast Park and had a few hours of fun together.

The best remembered outing for the members of the EXCO is probably the outing at K-box, where we sang our hearts out for as many as 8 hours!! We were all very 'high' and crazy that day, and it was suprising to find out how many good singers there are in the club.

If you want to have fun like us, be sure to join our family!
More details of recruitment of EXCO and Sub-comm would be revealed during 1st August's Orientation.

We decided to use this platform to answer a few of the more common questions posted to us during the PGDE registration day(s).

Q1. What is C.L.E.A.R club about?

Chinese Language Educational & Research (C.L.E.A.R) Club is a rather new club, having only around 7 years of history since its establishment. However, it is one of the largest clubs in NIE, with all the student teachers taking Chinese Language under its wing. We have helped to organize events in the campus to promote and share the Chinese culture among the students and lecturers. Furthermore, we provide a channel for the Chinese Student Teachers to share their enthusiasm for the Chinese Language.

Some events that have been carried out in the past:
1) Celebration of festive seasons to promote the Chinese cultures: Mid-autumn, Chinese New Year.
2) Talks to prepare future teachers for the challenges ahead: Pedagogy Sharing Sessions, Pre-practicum talks, Induction etc.
3) Overseas exchange programme to overseas teacher-training institutions to gain exposure to teacher training overseas, as well as to pick up anything that might be useful for us to apply in Singapore.
And these have been shown from out previous few posts on this website.

We welcome enthusiastic and responsible student teachers to join our EXCO (and Sub-comm) in the future.

Q2. What's the dress code like for the orientation for the whole Chinese cohort on 1st August?

Anything!
But i mean anything that's allowed according to NIE dresscode.
To make it simpler, dress/bottoms that are at knee-length or below are generally safe. No revealing top/top with vulgarities printed, and that includes sleeveless tops like tank tops or spagetti straps. Shoes should generally be non slipper-like.

Q3. Why must we pay $15 dollars? What is this money for?

These $15 are for the membership fees of the club (which is used to cover our expanses when events are help for the members), as well as pay for the club T-shirt that would issued to all members at a later date.

That said, REMEMBER TO PAY UP at our booth after registration!! haha >.<

Hi everyone!

Yesterday and today, we were able to meet with many PGDE freshies! It was really fun, as it reminded us that something similar happened to us not too long ago(: Don't worry, you'll soon get used to it. You can always approach seniors for help, and you'll soon find out how warm and friendly NIE students are (no self-boasting intended).

Are many of you lost on the way to the registration venue?
Well, the first thing that overwelmed most of us is the complicated structure of the buildings. Be sure that the first 2-3 weeks always carry your NIE Passport (you'll need the map). You can also see one at the 'links' section of our website.

For those taking Dip(ed) and BA(ed) students, we look forward to seeing you all at the registration exercise on 23rd/24th JULY! Don't forget to check out our booth at the MOTOR DEVELOPMENT ROOM just opposite the NIE gymnasium where registration is held;]

We started of the year with the Chinese New Year celebrations, which we collaborated with PGDELT to put up. Though busy with decorations and preparations, it paid off to have the programs running smoothly with everyone enjoying the performances.

Reminiscence Night
(Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration)

That was the first event we organized as freshmen. We put up a skit and held a competition featuring the best dressed, shapely ladies in cheongsam that wow the audience, also not forgetting attractive prizes which send our lucky winners home with smiles. After the performances, our guests took a walk at the bazaar outside which exhibits toys that our parents played when they were young and yummy food; five stones, miniature toys, malt candy, etc.

Hong Kong Overseas Educational Trip

We mark off the year with a year end trip to Hong Kong to investigate their education systems, and to understand how Chinese lessons were conducted, while we shared with them what we had here in Singapore. During our stay in Hong Kong, we went to St Margaret Co-educational English Secondary & Primary School and Evangel College; we would always be greeted by bubbly, enthusiastic students who never failed to brighten our day.

Apart from the observations, our amiable hosts who took us to picturesque places and restaurants with fabulously rich seafood.
