The full moon was like a beautiful pearl shining up high in the sky. It was that evening, on the 28th of
September 2012, the members of the C.L.E.A.R Club came together with more than
200 NIE Professors and Students
of different races to celebrate the annual
Mid-Autumn Festival celebration.
Unlike previous
years of celebration, this year, we
have incorporated SHINE
Singing Competition to start off with.
The seven finalists had come far to showcase their
talents. All of them awed the audience with their brilliant performances. The audience had a hard time to decide
who
they should cast their votes. In
addition, local producer and
songwriter, Acid Pang, head of Visual and Performing Arts Academic Group,
Associate Professor Chia Wei Khuan and 2011 SHINE Singing Competition overall
champion, Cheryl Choy were also invited to grace this event. However, as there could be only one winner, Grace Low, from Diploma of
Education (Chinese), Year 2, emerged as the champion of our SHINE Singing
Competition this year.

Besides that in the aim
to reunite NIE students and teachers,C.L.E.A.R club specially invited students from the Malay Language course and an
Indian Professor to come up on stage for Malay and Indian poem recitations
called “LaksanaBulanDipagarBintang” and “Revolution Poet” respectively. They were Mr. Sadli, Miss Nadzirahand Prof SivakumaranRamalingam. Adding on to that, the teachers from Asian Language Centre put up an ACappella song based on the traditional folk song called “Xiao Bai Chuan” which means Little White
Boat. It was a very heart warming scene to see
professors and students putting in their efforts for this event. Some of the
professors even brought along their families members to participate in this
celebration.

Mid-Autumn celebration
did not end just with performances and singing competition. The audiences were then invited to join the carnival booths that were set up at the
Student Hub after they were treated with a sumptuous spread of buffet. The carnival booths consisted of those Traditional Mid-Autumn Festival games. For e.g Riddles, lanterns parade, pick up sticks, and five stones etc. Of course, not forgetting the traditional food that we usually eat during the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is the mooncakes! Surprisingly,
C.L.E.A.R members organized
a snow-skin mooncakes making session for their fellow teachers and peers. The participants also had tea
appreciation session which had
woven them into the
history and culture of china with the subtle taste of the tea and the heartwarming ambience at the Student Hub.
The night was
ended with warm candle lights flickering around the NIE campus as staffs and students made
their way home reluctantly with their lanterns in their hands.
One of the most
important holidays in Chinese culture is the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is definitely a time to gather with family and friends under the full moon
sky while eating mooncakes, sipping tea and carrying lanterns.
We hope to organize such celebration again in the future as we can see
that everyone truly enjoyed themselves on that special night.
